What's the weirdest cross you have a pod from this season?
Mine is 'Mouse Tracks' x 'Jade Cascade'
I had 'Mauii Buttercups' and ' JC' microbrushes in my mouth and grabbed the wrong one.
Of course that was the only pod that took

Given my passion for Jade Cascade, please keep us updated, Dan.
I have The Razor's Edge x Praying Hands (just made the cross). _________________ Dennis |

Dan, my weirdest cross is my tiniest hosta x my largest hosta:
gracillima 'Betty Blake' x (Dorothy Benedict x 'Nigrescens')
This may be a forceps delivery!

Thanks for the responses Dennis and Jojo.
Dennis, I like that cross a lot.
Jojo, I did a little small with big last year. I crossed Blue Mouse Ears with Niagara Falls and a few others that are excaping my memory. I ended with seedlings that didn't appear any smaller but did have better substance. Most of the BME crossed with other pollens looked like BME. Good luck with your cross, hope you get some surprising results P.S. I like your sense of humor.

Dan - I think many of my crosses are odd ones and because I try some things that may not make sense to some people but make sense to me, I really don't consider them that odd.
I think that the ones that do not seem normal have the best chance of being unique. _________________ Jeff 1.0 |

I don't know how crazy it is but I crossed Tenryu to Cherry Berry and Cherry Berry Streaked to Tenryu. What I am hoping for is the tall scapes, upright form, and substance of Tenryu with Cherry Berry's red. I have never had successful crosses with Tenryu before but I have pods with both of these. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. _________________ Jim Zone 5A (or 4B depending who you ask.) |

Dan, I also have crossed Praying Hands with Sum and Substance. While Sum & Sub is known for not being very fertile, I have 9 pods on it so far from all the crosses that I have made this season, so maybe this will be the 10th cross that will take. _________________ Dennis |

Genealogist--Hope that Praying Hands gives you some viable seeds. Am hoping that one of my Gunther's Prize variegated seedlings will have a nice size and "fecundity", so am watching to see who else has success with S&S, or other related cultivars.
Please keep us posted, as your summer climate can be similar to ours. Am originally from Kent, is that anywhere near you? |

All crosses are fun and we all are looking for something different looking to some extent. Heck that is the fun of doing ones own crosses. The Dreaming. _________________ Hostaseedgrowers |
